A Website Everyone Can Use

Our target standard

We use the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA, as our target. These guidelines, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), explain how to make websites easier to use for people with a wide range of disabilities.

We design and test the site against this target ourselves. The site has not been independently audited or certified, and some parts may not yet fully meet the target.

Accessibility features on this site

• Skip link. A "Skip to main content" link at the top of every page lets keyboard and screen reader users jump past the menu.
• Clear structure. Every page uses standard regions (header, navigation, main content and footer) and has one main heading, with the other headings in a logical order.
• Keyboard access. You can use our menus, tabs, question-and-answer sections and the StormWatch weather panel with a keyboard. The Escape key closes menus and the weather panel.
• Visible focus. A clear outline shows which link, button or form field is selected.
• Accessible forms. Every form field has a visible label. If a field is missing or incorrect, the error is shown in text and announced to screen readers.
• Color contrast. Text and button colors are chosen to meet WCAG AA contrast minimums.
• Reduced motion. If your device is set to reduce motion, the site turns off its animations, including the photo slideshow at the top of our homepage. That slideshow also has its own pause button.
• Flexible layout. Pages reflow to fit screens as narrow as 320 pixels, so you can zoom in without scrolling sideways.
• Text alternatives. Images that carry information have text descriptions. Decorative images are hidden from screen readers.

Known limitations

• Content from other companies. Some content comes from other providers, such as the websites we link to (including Google, Facebook and the Better Business Bureau) and features we may add, like an embedded map or a reviews display. We don't control this content, and it may not fully meet WCAG 2.2 AA. If you have trouble with it, contact us and we will give you the information another way.

We will review every report, work on a fix, and follow up with you if you would like us to.

Keeping this statement up to date

We check accessibility when we make changes to the site, and we review this statement at least once a year.
