About two-thirds of Camden's mapped soils carry a seasonal water table within a foot of the surface, and roughly nine in ten are rated somewhat poorly to very poorly drained. On ground like that, a downspout emptying at the corner sends water straight back toward the slab or under the crawlspace.

Keep the oak, guard the gutter
Inside the St. Marys Historic District, removing a healthy tree 10 inches or more in diameter needs a Certificate of Appropriateness, and taking down an unhealthy one needs the Tree Board's approval. The rule favors keeping big trees, so the gutters have to live with them.

Spreading that discharge out, with extensions toward open lawn, is usually the first fix. A buried line only helps where the lot falls to an outlet that can take the water.
