Because the sand is only half the story. The county sits over a very high water table, so after a long rain the ground fills from below and water stands, and it usually stands first where a downspout dumps.

Charlton’s 2025 plan encourages fire-resistant construction beside the Okefenokee refuge, and the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety recommends metal gutters with noncombustible covers. We fit aluminum or copper gutters and Rhino metal mesh, never plastic.
