Forestry covers 59 percent of Wheeler County’s land, and pine straw is sold here by the bale: about $3.6 million worth in 2022, per the county’s 2024 plan. The same longleaf, slash and loblolly needles land on your roof.
Needles slip through coarse screens and foam, then knot into a wet mat at the outlet. A Rhino micro-mesh guard has openings too fine for a needle to stand up in, so the straw sits on top, dries and mostly blows or washes off.
NWS Peachtree City said Wheeler was “definitely within the core of the strongest winds.” On a house, that means bent runs, loose hangers and cracked fascia.
NOAA storm records for the county also list tornadoes, hail, snow and drought, and each marks a gutter differently.
On May 9, 2024 an EF0 tornado crossed North Broad Street into town. It collapsed an outbuilding wall and damaged the canopy of a former service station.
Wind like that pulls runs loose at the ends and tears downspouts from their straps. We re-fasten into sound wood and replace any opened seam.
In July 2017 quarter-size hail covered the ground where Highways 19 and 46 meet. The county record, from 1980, is a two-inch stone.
Dented aluminum often still drains. We run a hose down it first and replace only what holds water or has cracked.
Three inches of snow fell in February 2010, and FEMA declared a winter-storm emergency for the county in January 2026. Frozen, wet needles load the hangers.
Clean before December, screw hidden hangers into the fascia at close spacing and pitch every run to drain.
Wheeler reached severe drought in November 2025 and extreme drought in February and March 2026. The county’s hazard plan names wildfire alongside flooding.
The NFPA advises clearing pine needles from roofs and gutters where embers could land. A Rhino guard keeps the needle bed out between cleanings.

Where a limb hit, the board behind often splits. It is replaced before a hanger goes back in.
A slight bend is re-hung; a creased run is formed again on site. Roof damage goes to your roofer first; we don’t do roofing.
USDA soil surveys show two extremes here. About a fifth of the county is fast-draining sand such as Lakeland and Troup, where a downspout emptying in one spot digs a hole beside the slab.
About 28 percent is poorly drained. On Pelham flats the water table can sit near the surface, so water has to travel farther, sometimes through buried pipe to an outlet that drains.
In April 2009, over six inches of rain in three days washed out several dirt roads across the county, so we never aim a downspout at a sandy drive.
The Little Ocmulgee runs along the west side, the Oconee the east and the Ocmulgee the south. At the southeastern tip the Oconee and Ocmulgee meet to start the Altamaha.

Grew up around an 1890 railroad depot; the columned 1917 courthouse now anchors downtown. About 60 percent of homes predate 1980, so fascia is the first thing we check.

Jordan is a historic community on the scenic road toward Lumber City. Along the same route stands Woodland, an 1870s Victorian on the National Register. Scroll-sawn trim like that often suits half-round.
EF1 tornadoes brought down trees near both in December 2012. Barns here drain long roofs to one edge, so we add outlets.
Both highways cross only this corner, past the Telfair–Wheeler Airport. Little Ocmulgee State Park sits on the Wheeler–Telfair line north of McRae-Helena; Irma gusted to 57 mph there in 2017.
Home to the 3,086-acre Alligator Creek WMA. Idalia downed trees near Fox and Rabbit roads, and snow fell along Bells Ferry Road in January 2018.
About one home in five here was built before 1960, nearly double Georgia’s share, and about a third are manufactured homes (Census ACS 2020–2024).

(912) 202-0537Raking the yard does nothing for needles already in the trough. If pines overhang the roof, a Rhino micro-mesh guard saves the ladder trips. If the nearest pine is across a field, one cleaning a year may be enough, and we will say so.
Yes, before the next storm. A limb can crack the board without denting the gutter, and hangers in split wood pull out under a load of water. We replace the damaged fascia and soffit, then re-hang the run on sound wood.
We found no rule that singles out gutters, but Alamo is the only place in Wheeler County with zoning, and the city asks to be contacted before building changes. For work inside town limits we check with City Hall on West Main Street first. Outside town, the county has only limited land-use rules.
Downhill, and farther out than a splash block. On poorly drained Pelham and Bibb soils the water table sits near the surface for months, so water dumped at the corner just puddles. We extend it or pipe it to ground that drains.
Late fall, after the heaviest needle drop and before winter rain. At Eastman, the nearest full weather record, December averages 4.78 inches, only a little behind July, so a trough left full in November overflows all winter.
Usually, yes. Both downtowns have historic commercial blocks, and the county plan lists façade grants as an opportunity. A 7-inch box gutter suits a long commercial eave, and the downspouts can be placed so they do not dump onto the sidewalk.
