After Helene
Rebuilt after Helene, hung for the next storm
The National Hurricane Center reported that 80 to 85 percent of Coffee County’s homes were damaged in Helene. In Douglas, metal roofs came off manufactured homes, shopping centers and the city fire station, and uprooted trees fell on houses along Walker Street, Gaskin Avenue and Golf Club Road.

Douglas
County seatChartered as a city in 1897 and named for Sen. Stephen A. Douglas. Downtown storefronts get commercial runs; older houses get profiles that suit their age.

Southwest DouglasThe April 2021 EF-2 tornado did its worst damage here. On a house repaired since, hangers belong in framing, not just trim.
Nicholls
GA 32Thirteen miles east on GA 32, which flooded near town in June 2026. Idalia dropped 7.48 inches nearby in 2023; downspouts empty well clear of the slab.
Broxton
North countyIncorporated in 1904, with Broxton Rocks ten miles north. A tornado touched down just outside town during Helene, the kind of wind that tests every hanger.
Ambrose
West countyFormed in 1899 after the railroad arrived, 12 miles west of Douglas. About six inches of rain washed out roads in town in October 2025; downspouts go to your own low side.
West Green
Rural communityAn EF-1 tornado snapped tree trunks here in May 2017, and nearby roads washed out in June 2026. Where a downspout empties matters as much as trough size.

Yes. A poultry house or machine shed has one long, plain eave, so we form a box profile or an oversized K-style, split it between several downspouts and fix each hanger into framing. Helene affected 100 Coffee County poultry farms; a rebuild is a natural time to add gutters.
About 44 percent of the county’s soil drains well, like the sandy Tifton and Carnegie uplands, where a splash block lets water soak in. On the 39 percent that drains poorly, like the Pelham and Kinston bottoms, we extend downspouts or bury solid pipe.
