Aluminum and copper both do well because neither rusts. Aluminum takes a baked-on finish in many colors; copper has no coating to fail and weathers to a patina. Either way, hangers and fasteners must suit salt air, and copper must be kept apart from aluminum parts.
Yes, because nobody is there to see the damage. Wind can loosen hangers and shift the pitch without an obvious sag, and a limb can dent a run so it holds water. After any storm that brings limbs down, have the gutters checked before the next heavy rain.
